Barjac is a listed “village de caractère” and commands a strategic and unique position overlooking the Cevennes mountain range. Barjac enjoyed a prosperous past, dating back to the Gallo-Roman period, of which some remnants are still visible throughout the village.
It was however in the Renaissance period that Barjac really flourished, with its magnificent Castle as a testament to this period. It commands a view of the Cevennes, the Haute-Ardeche, all the way to Mont Aigoual and Mont Lozere. It was recently renovated and now serves as the town hall.
Barjac is ideally situated at 35 minutes from the Autoroute A7, an hour from Nimes, 35 minutes from Uzes, 40 minutes from Aubenas and benefits from a strong summer influx of activities and festivals.

Barjac is a village that hosts many cultural events throughout the summer It is internationally renowned for its twice annual seconde-hand trade and Antique fair that takes place at Easter and in August and also the Chanson de Parole or folk music festivals which takes places in July.
But there is so much more: The Bambouseraie of Anduze, the Pont du Gard, the Sautadet Waterfalls, Orgnac Cave and now also the Caverne Pont d’Arc, or the reconstruction of the Chauvet caves, as well as many of the nearby villages, classified among the most beautiful in France, offer much to do and see in the area.
For those looking for an active getaway, rugged and wild terrain surround you and the choice is limitless. For biking or hiking the area offers unrivaled opportunities and incredible access to nature. Or if you want something slightly more sedate don’t forget the traditional game of petanque on the village square.
If you are in search of some cooling water, the gorges of Ardeche or Cèze, are 10 minutes away. Ideal for swimming, canoeing and spending a day on the stunning river beaches. All within a stones throw of Maison Anila.
